Prime Minister Boyko Borissov to address participants at Economist Conferences' Roundtable

Senior executives from leading Bulgarian and multinational companies will take part in the Eighth Business Roundtable with the Government of Bulgaria, organised by Economist Conferences.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will address the participants during a panel discussion entitled: “Time for a fresh start: rebuilding Bulgaria’s image”. Three ministers from the new government’s economic team—Traicho Traikov, Aleksandar Tsvetkov and Rosen Plevneliev—will also speak at the Roundtable, which will take placeat the Sheraton Hotel, Sofia on December 8th, 2009...

With a new government in office, the Roundtable will be a timely, high-level dialogue between businesses and key ministers about Bulgaria’s future prospects. Much of the discussion will focus on whether Bulgaria can make a fresh start by attracting new investment and fighting corruption and organised crime, as the government is promising.

"The new government is facing two very difficult tasks: improving Bulgaria's image and steering the country out of economic trouble. It will have to succeed in both to convince potential investors that Bulgaria is an attractive place to do business," said Richard Eames, Conferences Programme Director CEMEA at the Economist Intelligence Unit.

During the interactive conference sessions, ministers will discuss their approaches to reviving Bulgaria’s economy. Mr Traikov, Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, will take part in a discussion entitled: “Tough choices: economic policy and the business environment”. In a separate session, Mr Plevneliev, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, and Mr Tsvetkov, Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, will discuss how Bulgaria can find a competitive edge. During the discussions, senior executives attending will be able to ask questions and participate in the debate.

Delegates will also receive the results of an international survey of senior executives on doing business in Bulgaria, carried out by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
