Government and business leaders assess Nigeria’s prospects for 2010

Lagos, December 18th 2009

Business and government leaders will gather in Lagos on January 11th and 12th to discuss Nigeria’s economic and business prospects at the 2010 CEO Agenda Nigeria forum. The event is organised by Economist Conferences, a division of the United Kingdom-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The theme of this international conference is “Renewing Business Confidence”. Discussion will focus on whether business sentiment is improving in Africa’s most populous economy, and how companies can negotiate both domestic challenges and the implications of the global slowdown.

Key speakers include senior officials from the Nigerian government, Lagos State and the central bank, as well as leading Nigerian and international executives from telecommunications, financial services, oil and gas, and other sectors.

After starting with a discussion of what the global economic outlook means for Nigeria, the conference will address a number of home-grown concerns. These include: how to improve Nigeria’s business environment; infrastructure development; power generation and transmission; reform of the financial services sector; the impact of security concerns on international investment; and the business climate in Lagos itself.

Despite Abuja’s growing importance as a diplomatic and legislative hub, Lagos is home to over 16 million people and remains a prime commercial, industrial and transportation hub in the sub-Saharan region.

“Clearly, Nigeria is a potentially vibrant economy with prospects for growth in many sectors, but internal challenges need to be tackled,” says Marianne Mazou, Director, Africa, Economist Conferences. “The 2010 CEO Agenda will bring together Nigeria’s leading business executives and government ministers to discuss how to renew business confidence in the Nigerian economy. We look forward to another successful event.”
