Vuk Jeremić

Minister of Foreign Affairs

Vuk Jeremić became foreign affairs minister in May 2007, in which post he assumed the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from May to September 2007. In 2006 he was elected to the main board of the Democratic Party; in 2004 he had been appointed chairman of its foreign affairs committee. He served as senior foreign policy adviser to the Serbian president from 2004 until he took up his current appointment. Mr Jeremić was previously special envoy for Euro-Atlantic affairs for the defence ministry of Serbia and Montenegro (2003-04) and an adviser to the Yugoslavian telecommunications minister (2000-03). Earlier in his career, he worked for financial institutions in London, including Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, and also for pharmaceuticals company AstraZeneca. He co-founded the Organization of Serbian Students Abroad, and served as its financial manager. Mr Jeremić graduated in theoretical physics from Cambridge University and subsequently gained a master’s degree in public administration from the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is fluent in English and German.
