Honorable Kuma Demeksa is the Mayor of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia since 2008. He was born in Illubabore province, Ethiopia, in 1958. He has obtained a B.A degree from the University of New Mexico, USA in Public Administration .He also joined the Azusa Pacific University and graduated in 2008 with Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Leadership. His career is highlighted by dedicated services to the nation in ministerial and administrative positions. Kuma was one of the freedom fighters during the bitter armed struggle against the military regime in the country. Before assuming power as the first elected Mayor of Addis Ababa, in May 2008, he has served his country as State Minister of Capacity Building, Minister of Interior, President of Oromiya Regional State, as well as Minister of Defense. He has been a central committee member of the governing party. Currently, Mayor Kuma is a member of the Executive Committee of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front, EPRDF (the Ruling Party) since1989.
